Fine Wine Delicious Food Nature Trails Mountain Views *Reservations required for all experiences & visitors. Especially once the tasting room is finished.Wine, Food & Adventure! Located in the heart of Apple Hill, Ca, Starfield Vineyards & Winery is the perfect weekend getaway! Starfield is just a quick 45 minutes from Sacramento & 1 hour from South Lake Tahoe! Great place and we can't wait to revisit. The owner and winemaker has been doing this for a long time and his experience and attention to the venue and his wines definitely show. We joined the wineclub which is well priced given the quality of wines they are producing. A few total standouts for us were the Blanc de Blancs (bubbles), the Savignon Blanc, the Tempranillo and that Barbera which is one of the best Barberas known to mankind! Entering the estate adorned with beautiful flowers surrounded by lush vineyards makes you want to stay. There are very few wineries that we have been to that we can say that everything we tasted was spot on. A trip to Starfield Vineyards makes any day blissful. They're both great to visit with and know the industry and their products VERY well. They are both from an Amador winery that changed ownership earlier this year. We had the pleasure of meeting up with Jennifer, the Director of everything and Kat, her terrific protege. They have been planting hundreds of trees and shrubs that supliment what is already a beautiful environment. There are trails all over the property with different things to see at every turn. They are working feverously to finish up the tasting room with an estimated opening of "Julyish." They are currently doing tastings in the pavillion which is perched above a pond that overlooks the foothills. As of this writing, they are not yet open to the public but you can visit by calling them to do a tasting in what is an amazing and I mean amazing spot just a few minutes from Hwy 50 in Placerville. We had originally heard about Starfield a few months ago. If they feel it is reasonable to tip their employees, fine, but at least it would be nice if they put flat dollar amounts like $2, $5, $10 or pick you own, instead of percentages. So were we expected to tip $50 to $100 for 6 sips of wine? we did it but weren't happy about it. And the amounts seems exorbitant for wine tasting. Most wineries don't even have a tip jar, let alone pressure you to provide a tip on your bill. Tasting room open by reservation 7 days per week. It asks if you want to tip 10%, 15%, 20% or you fill in the blank. We go to great lengths to create extraordinary wines that reflect the exceptional terroir of the Sierra Foothills while providing guests with an array of unparalleled experiences to enjoy Starfield Vineyards is located outside of Placerville, Ca, and 5 minutes off HWY 50. And when you pay for wine it automatically pops up with the dreaded tip screen. My only complaint is that they use a computerized program for checking you in and for payment. They have their own limited menu of cheeses, crackers and charcuterie-type offerings at the moment and are planning on offering a more extensive menu soon. You are not supposed to bring your own food to enjoy near the winery, but they do have extensive grounds and you are allowed to bring a picnic to enjoy near their pond area. The grounds are beautiful and it will make a nice setting for summer events. It has a nice modern feeling tasting room with friendly, attentive pourers. The location is very nice, on a hillside. We were told about this place by someone who works at a nearby winery.
